April 12, 2004 Round 1 Game 3: Devils Handle Flyers, Win 4-2 at Home
The New Jersey Devils got back into their Eastern Conference
Quarter Finals series matchup against the Flyers with a 4-2 victory in New
Jersey on Monday, April 12, 2004. The Devils have now cut the Flyers
series lead to 2 games to 1. Special teams were the key to this game,
with 5 of the 6 goals scored coming with the man-advantage.
Here are a few of my pictures
from the game.
In an eerily familiar situation, Jeremy Roenick scored on the
power-play with a Devils defenseman (Paul Martin) in the box. Kim
Johnsson and Alexei Zhamnov assisted on the goal at 8:49 of the first
period.
The first period ended with the Flyers leading the Devils 1-0,
and the Devils outshooting the Flyers, 9-8.
Patrik Elias tied the game by beating Robert Esche just 1:26 into
the second period. Scott Gomez and Brian Rafalski assisted on Elias'
second goal of the playoffs.
Tony Amonte regained the lead for the Flyers with a power-play
goal just 1:47 later. Jeremy Roenick and Alexei Zhamnov assisted on the
goal.
Just 1:42 later, at 4:55 of the second period, Paul Martin
answered with a power-play goal to tie the game, 2-2. Martin's first
post-season goal was assisted by Brian Gionta and Scott Gomez.
Patrik Elias beat Esche on the power-play at 17:28 of the second
for his second goal of the period. Elias' third goal of the playoffs was
assisted by Tommy Albelin and Brian Gionta. This was the first point in
the series that the Devils led the Flyers on the scoreboard.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Flyers 3-2.
The Devils outshot Philadelphia 8-5 in the period.
Brian Gionta added a third Devils power-play goal at the 7:00
mark of the third period to give the Devils a 2 goal lead. Scott Gomez
and Paul Martin assisted on Gionta's second goal of the playoffs.
The game ended with the Devils defeating the Flyers, 4-2.
The Flyers outshot the Devils 12-6 in the third period and 25-23 in the
game.
The Flyers now lead the series 2-1, with game 4 to be played in
New Jersey at 7:00PM on Wednesday, April 14, 2004.
