December 15, 2005 Game 31: Devils Fall To Thrashers: 3-2 In Overtime
The New Jersey Devils lost at home, 3-2 in overtime to the
Atlanta Thrashers on Thursday, December 15, 2005.
Scott Gomez beat Thrashers netminder, Michael Garnett at 16:04 of
the first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Brian Gionta and Viktor
Kozlov assisted on Gomez's ninth goal of the season.
The Thrashers outshot the Devils 9-6 in the first period, but
trailed the Devils 1-0 in goals.
Jean-Pierre Vigier tied the game by beating Martin Brodeur at
13:58 of the second period.
Atlanta continued to outshoot the Devils in the second period,
putting 13 shots on Brodeur, to the Devils mere 4 shots in the period.
Ilya Kovalchuk beat Martin Brodeur at 4:58 of the third period
to give Atlanta their first lead of the game.
Alexander Mogilny scored at 9:21 to even the game, 2-2.
Sergei Brylin assisted on Mogilny's 11th goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Thrashers 16-8 in the third period, but
regulation time ended with the teams tied, 2-2.
Marc Savard won the game for Atlanta, beating Brodeur on a
power-play with just 5 seconds remaining in the overtime period.
