December 20, 2005 Game 33: Devils Beat Rangers 3-1 at MSG
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Rangers, 3-1 at Madison Square
Garden on Tuesday, December 20, 2005.
There was no scoring in the first period, though the Rangers
outshot the Devils 11-7.
Steve Ruchin beat Martin Brodeur at 14:19 of the second period to
give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
The Rangers outshot the Devils 13-12 in the second period, which
ended with the Rangers leading the Devils, 1-0.
Brian Gionta beat Kevin Weekes with a great top-shelf backhand
shot at 14:19 of the third period to tie the game, 1-1. John Madden and
Brian Rafalski assisted on Gionta's 19th goal of the season.
Alexander Mogilny scored just 19 seconds after Gionta's goal to
give the Devils their first lead of the game. Mogilny's 12th goal of the
season was assisted by John Madden and Brian Rafalski.
John Madden sealed the win with an empty net goal with just 13
seconds remaining. Jay Pandolfo and Jamie Langenbrunner assisted on
Madden's fifth goal of the season.
The game ended with the Devils defeating the Rangers, 3-1.
The Devils outshot the Rangers 13-7 in the third period and 32-31 in
the game.
