January 19, 2006Game 47: Devils Beat Predators 4-3 With Shootout Victory
The New Jersey Devils beat the Predators 4-3 with a shootout
victory in Nashville on Thursday, January 19, 2006.
Steve Sullivan beat Marting Brodeur 5:04 into the first period to
give Nashville a 1-0 lead.
Patrik Elias tied the game at 18:23 on a power-play with his
third goal of the season. Elias' goal was assisted by Jamie
Langenbrunner and Brian Rafalski.
The first period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The Devils
outshot the Predators 12-9 in the period.
Jamie Langenbrunner gave the Devils their first lead of the game,
beating Tomas Vokoun at 11:58 of the second period. Richard Matvichuk
and John Madden assisted on Langenbrunner's ninth goal of the season.
Grant Marshall beat Vokoun on a power-play just 1:28 after
Langenbrunner's goal to make it a 3-1 Devils lead. Colin White and
Sergei Brylin assisted on Marshall's sixth goal of the season.
Kimmo Timonen beat Martin Brodeur on the power-play at 17:30 to
get Nashville back within one goal of the Devils.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Predators,
3-2. The Devils outshot the Predators 14-6 in the period.
Martin Erat scored a power-play goal at 9:57 of the third period
to tie the game, 3-3.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 3-3, forcing a 5 minute
overtime period. Neither team was able to score in the overtime period,
forcing a shootout.
Viktor Kozlov and Brian Gionta scored shootout goals while Martin
Brodeur stopped both shots he faced to win the game, extending the Devils
winning streak to 8 games.
