November 07, 2006 Game 14: Devils Beat Hurricanes 3-2 in Shootout
The New Jersey Devils beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in a
shootout at home on Tuesday, November 7, 2006.
There were no goals scored in the first period. The Canes
outshot the Devils 8-7 in the period.
Travis Zajac gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at
7:50 of the second period. Zach Parise & Jamie Langenbrunner assisted on
Zajac's fourth goal of the season.
Eric Staal tied the game with a 5 on 3 power-play goal that beat
Martin Brodeur at 9:39 of the second period.
The second period ended with the game tied, 1-1. Carolina
outshot New Jersey 9-6 in the period.
Rod Brind'amour put the puck past Brodeur at 15:45 of the third
period to give Carolina a 2-1 lead.
With 1:00 remaining in regulation time, Jim Dowd tied the game,
which would force overtime. Paul Martin and John Madden assisted on
Dowd's first goal of the season.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 2-2. The Canes
outshot the Devils 6-5 in the period. Neither team scored in the 5:00
overtime period, forcing a shootout.
