December 30, 2006 Game 38: Devils Shutdown Islanders 2-0
The New Jersey Devils beat the Islanders, 2-0 in New York on
Saturday, December 30, 2006. The season series is now tied, 1-1.
The shutout was number six of the season and the 86th of Martin Brodeur's
career.
Brian Rafalski beat Rick DiPietro at 5:21 of the first period to
give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Jay Pandolfo and John Madden assisted on
Rafalski's second goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Islanders 10-9 and led 1-0 at the end of
the first period.
There were no goals scored in the second period, in which the
Islanders outshot the Devils 10-9.
Patrik Elias added an empty net goal with just 10 seconds
remaining in the third period to seal the Devils win. Scott Gomez and
Johnny Oduya assisted on Elias' 15th goal of the season.
