January 26, 2007 Game 49: Devils Beat Lightning 2-0
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Lightning 2-0 in Tampa Bay on
Friday, January 26, 2007. The shutout was the 9th of the season and 89th
of Martin Brodeur's career.
Brian Gionta beat Johan Holmqvist with just 51 seconds remaining
in the first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Scott Gomez and
Patrik Elias assisted on Gionta's 22nd goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Lightning,
1-0. The shots were even, 9-9 in the period.
Neither team scored in the second period. The Devils
outshot the Lightning 8-7 in the period.
Jay Pandolfo added an empty net goal at 19:17 to seal the win for
New Jersey. Pandolfo's seventh goal of the season was assisted by Sergei
Brylin and John Madden.
