March 17, 2007 Game 72: Devils Crushed By Hurricanes 2-7
The New Jersey Devils were annihilated 7-2 at home by the
Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, March 17, 2007.
Chad Larose beat Martin Brodeur 4:48 into the first period to
give Carolina a 1-0 lead.
The Hurricanes outshot the Devils 7-4 in the first period, which
ended with Carolina winning 1-0.
Josef Vasicek scored at 3:35 of the second period to increase the
Canes lead to 2 goals. Ray Whitney added a goal just 1:18 later to make
it a 3-0 Carolina lead. Rod Brind'Amour scored at 8:09, after which
Scott Clemmensen replaced Brodeur in net.
nbsp; David Clarkson scored his first NHL goal to get the Devils on the
board - beating John Grahame at 10:42 of the second period. Clarkson's
goal was assisted by Zach Parise and Andy Greene.
Chad Larose scored his second goal of the game, beating Scott
Clemmensen at 16:58 to make it a 5-1 Canes lead.
The Hurricanes outshot the Devils 14-6 in the second
period.
Scott Walker added a power-play goal at 7:58 of the third period
to put the Devils down by five goals. Tim Gleason added a power-play
goal at 12:37 to make it 7-1 Carolina.
Travis Zajac cut the Hurricanes lead to a mere five goals again
with a goal at 13:23. Zajac's 15th goal of the season was assisted by
David Clarkson and Brian Rafalski.
