October 13, 2007 Game 5: Devils defeat Thrashers 6-5
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Thrashers 6-5 in Atlanta
on Saturday, October 13, 2007.
John Madden gave the Devils and early lead with a power-play goal
that beat Atlanta netminder Kari Lehtonen just 1:46 into the first period.
Madden's third goal of the season was assisted by Dainius Zubrus and
Arron Asham.
Darren Haydar beat Martin Brodeur just 35 seconds after Madden's
goal to tie the game, 1-1.
Patrik Elias scored a power-play goal at 18:05 to regain the lead
for New Jersey. Elias' first goal of the season was assisted by Travis
Zajac and Zach Parise.
The Devils outshot the Thrashers 12-4 in the first period, and
led 2-1.
Ilya Kovalchuk beat Martin Brodeur just 22 seconds into the
second period on a power-play to tie the game, 2-2. Garnet Exelby scored
at 7:26 to give Atlanta a 3-2 lead. Ex-Devil Bobby Holik made it 4-2
Atlanta with a goal at 8:28.
Jay Pandolfo got the Devils back within one goal of the Thrashers
with a goal at 19:41 of the second period. Pandolfo's first goal of the
season was assisted by Paul Martin and John Madden.
The Devils outshot the Thrashers 11-10 in the second period,
which ended with Atlanta leading 4-3.
Travis Zajac tied the game with a great backhand goal 3:04 into
the third period. Zajac's first goal of the season was assisted by
Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta.
Sergei Brylin scored his first goal of the season at 12:05 of the
third period to give the Devils a 5-4 lead. The goal was assisted by
Travis Zajac.
Ilya Kovalchuk tied the game with a goal at 16:40.
Patrik Elias scored his second goal of the game with 28 seconds
remaining in regulation time to seal the win for New Jersey. Paul
Martin and Zach Parise assisted on the winning goal.
