December 10, 2007Game 30: Devils Lose Tie Game To Capitals 2-3
The New Jersey Devils lost 2-3 to the Capitals in Washington on
Monday, December 10, 2007.
John Madden gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with a goal that beat Olaf
Kolzig 5:56 into the first period. Brian Gionta and Dainius Zubrus
assisted on Madden's eighth goal of the season.
Nicklas Backstrom tied the game, beating Kevin Weekes with a
power-play goal at 8:44.
The Devils outshot the Caps 11-9 in the first period, which ended
with the game tied, 1-1.
Jeff Schultz scored to make it 2-1 Washington just 53 seconds
into the second period. Quinton Lang increased the Capitals lead with a
goal at 18:08.
The second period ended with the Capitals leading 3-1.
Washington outshot New Jersey 10-2 in the period.
Mike Mottau was robbed of a clear goal early in the third
period. Officially, the puck was kicked in - it was not.
The officials decided to let the Devils third goal of the game
count when David Clarkson scored on a wraparound shot. Rod Pelley
assisted on Clarkson's fourth goal of the season.
