November 09, 2008Game 14: Oilers Beat Some Guys In Devils Jerseys 2-1
The New Jersey Devils lost 1-2 at the Prudential Center to the
Edmonton Oilers on Sunday, November 8, 2008.
Neither team scored in the first period, in which the Oilers
outshot the Devils 8-6.
Sheldon Souray beat Scott Clemmensen at 7:19 of the second period
to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead. Ales Hemsky made it 2-0 Edmonton with a
power-play goal at 13:49.
The Devils outshot the Oilers 20-11 in the second period, but
trailed 0-2 after 40 minutes of play.
Zach Parise gave the Devils hope in the third period with a goal
that beat Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers at 3:50. Parise's 11th goal of the
season was assisted by Travis Zajac and Johnny Oduya.
Though the injury-beleaguered Devils only trailed by one goal
late in the third period, their fate was sealed with about 5 minutes remaining.
Though only 3 minor penalties were called in the first 55 mnutes of game
time, Travis Zajac was assessed with a goaltender interference call with 5
minutes to go and Jamie Langenbrunner took an offensive zone hooking penalty at
the 18:42 mark.
