December 10, 2008 Game 25: Devils Return Home, Beat Penguins 4-1
The New Jersey Devils began their 3 games (in 4 nights) home
stand with a 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, December
10, 2008.
The shots were even, 10-10 in the first period, with both
netminders keeping the opposing team scoreless.
Travis Zajac put the puck past Dany Sabourin at 17:39 of the
second period to give New Jersey a 1-0 lead. Zajac's fifth goal of the
season was assisted by Jamie Langenbrunner and Colin White.
The second period came to a close with the Devils holding a 1-0
lead over Pittsburgh. The Devils outshot the Pens 12-7 in the
period.
Zach Parise gave the Devils a 2-0 lead with a goal just 2:18 into
the third period. Bryce Salvador and Jamie Langenbrunner assisted on
Parise's 16th of the season.
The Devils took a three goal lead when Dainius Zubrus scored at
10:12. Brian Gionta and Bryce Salvador assisted on Zubrus' seventh goal
of the season.
Matt Cook beat Scott Clemmensen at 16:02 to ruin his hopes of a
shutout.
Patrik Elias sealed the win with an empty net goal at 19:19, to
make it a 4-1 Devils win.
