February 03, 2009 Game 51: Streak Over, Caps Beat Devs 5-2
The New Jersey Devils were defeated 2-5 at home by the Washington
on Tuesday, February 3, 2009.
Mike Green beat Scott Clemmensen at 5:58 of the first period on a
power-play to give the Capitals a 1-0 lead. Brooks Laich put the puck
past Clemmensen at 8:12 on a power-play to make it a two goal Washington
lead.
The Capitals outshot the Devils 13-10 in the first period, which
ended with the Caps leading, 2-0.
Michael Nylander scored the only even strength goal of the game
at 2:16 of the second period, to increase Washington's lead to three
goals.
Brian Rolston scored a 5 on 3 power-play goal for New Jersey at
8:50 to get the Devils on the board. Patrik Elias and Zach Parise
assisted on Rolston's ninth goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Capitals leading the Devils,
3-1. Washington outshot New Jersey 8-7 in the period.
Jamie Langenbrunner beat Jose Theodore just 41 seconds into the
third period, short-handed, to cut Washington's lead to one goal. Travis
Zajac and Bryce Salvador assisted on Langenbrunner's 15th goal of the
season.
Michael Nylander scored his second goal of the game on a
power-play at 10:59. Eric Fehr added an empty net goal at 18:50 to seal the
win for Washington.
