February 15, 2009 Game 57: Devils BEAT Sharks 6-5
The New Jersey Devils outscored the San Jose Sharks in a goalfest
that ended with the Devils winning 6-5 on Sunday, February 15, 2009.
It took only 30 seconds for the Devils to score on Evgeni
Nabakov. Brian Gionta's 13th goal of the season was assisted by Patrik
Elias and Dainius Zubrus.
Rob Blake evened the score with a goal that beat Scott Clemmensen
at 4:34.
Brian Rolston regained the lead for New Jersey with a goal at
8:01. John Madden and Brian Gionta assisted on Rolston's 10th goal of
the season.
The game was again tied, just 45 seconds after Rolston's goal
when Patrick Marleau scored a power-play goal to make it 2-2.
David Clarkson scored his 12th goal of the season at 12:41 to
give the Devils a 3-2 lead. Brian Rolston and Bryce Salvador assisted on
the goal.
The Sharks outshot the Devils 11-8 in the first period, but New
Jersey led 3-2 after the first 20 minutes of play.
At 16:23 of the second period, Jonathan Cheechoo scored to tie
the game at 3 goals. Devin Setoguchi gave the Sharks their first lead of
the game with a 5 on 3 power-play goal at 19:47.
The second period ended with the Sharks leading, 4-3. The
Devils outshot the Sharks 9-8 in the period.
Patrik Elias scored his 23rd goal of the season on a power-play
at 4:49 of the third period. Zach Parise and Jamie Langenbrunner
assisted on the goal.
Jamie Langenbrunner made it 5-4 New Jersey with a power-play goal
at 7:40. Langenbrunner's 18th of the season was assisted by Zach Parise
and Travis Zajac.
Joe Pavelski tied the game again with a short-handed goal that
beat Scott Clemmensen at 10:56.
At 16:28, David Clarkson scored the game-winning goal for New
Jersey. Brian's Rolston and Gionta assisted on Clarkson's 13th goal of
the season.
