February 19, 2009 Game 59: Devils Beat Lightning: 3-2 Shootout
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 3-2 shootout victory over the
Lightning in Tampa Bay on Thursday, February 19, 2009.
Ryan Malone beat Kevin Weekes at 4:33 of the first period to give
Tampa a 1-0 lead. Malone scored again at 12:55 to increase the
Lightning's lead.
The first period ended with the Lightning leading, 2-0.
The Lightning outshot the Devils 14-11 in the period.
Brian Rolston got New Jersey on the board with a power-play goal
that beat Karri Ramo just 2:16 into the second period. David Clarkson
and Dainius Zubrus assisted on Rolston's 11th goal of the season.
The shots were even, 12-12 in the second period - which ended
with Tampa Bay leading, 2-1.
Zach Parise returned in the third period (after missing the
second period - flu symptoms), and immediately made his presence known, with a
power-play goal at 1:13. Travis Zajac and Jamie Langenbrunner assisted
on Parise's 35th goal of the season.
