March 07, 2009 Game 65: Devils Fail on Long Island, 3-7
The New Jersey Devils lost 3-7 to the Islanders on Long Island on
Saturday, March 7, 2009.
The Islanders took an early lead when Radek Martinek beat Martin
Brodeur just 1:42 into the first period. Martinek's goal should have
been disallowed, since he interfered with Brodeur, but no call was made.
Kyle Okposo made it 2-0 with a power-play goal at 10:59. Jeff Tambellini
scored at 14:05 to make it 3-0.
The first period ended with the Islanders leading, 3-0.
The Islanders outshot the Devils 12-11 in the period.
Brian Gionta got the Devils on the board with a goal that beat
Joey Macdonald just 29 seconds into the second period. Colin White and
Mike Mottau assisted on Gionta's 15th goal of the season.
Sean Bergenheim beat Brodeur just 1:11 after Gionta's goal to
give the Islanders a 3 goal lead again.
Jamie Langenbrunner scored at 4:01 to cut the Islanders lead to 3
goals. Bryce Salvador and Zach Parise assisted on Langenbrunner's 21st
of the season.
Blake Comeau scored on a power-play at 13:00 and Sean Bergenheim
made it 6-2 with a goal at 17:20.
Patrik Elias scored a power-play goal at 6:48. Paul Martin
and Bobby Holik asssted on Elias' 26th goal of the season.
Sean Bergenheim completed a hat trick with a short-handed empty
net goal with less than 1 second remaining in the game.
