April 17, 2009 Round 1 Game 2: Devils Fail in OT, Hurricanes Win 2-1
The New Jersey Devils lost game two of the first round of
the Stanley Cup Playoffs at home 1-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes on
Friday, April 17, 2009.
Zach Parise give the Devils a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at
the 10:44 mark of the first period. Paul Martin and Patrik Elias
assisted on Parise's second goal of the post-season.
Eric Staal tied the game with a power-play goal for Carolina with
just 25 seconds remaining in the period.
The Devils outshot the Hurricanes 11-9 in the first period, which
ended with the teams tied, 1-1.
Neither team scored in the second period, in which the shots were
even, 11-11. The Devils outshot the Canes 12-7 in the third period which
was also scoreless.
Tim Gleason broke the tie with a goal that beat Martin Brodeur at
2:40 of the first overtime to win the game for the Hurricanes.
