October 08, 2010 Game 1: Devils Lose to Stars 3-4 in Overtime
The New Jersey Devils opened the 2010-2011 NHL Hockey season with
a 3-4 overtime loss to the Dallas Stars at the Prudential Center on Friday,
October 8, 2010.
Travis Zajac scored the first goal of Devils season just 2:45
into the first period to give New Jersey a 1-0 lead. Ilya Kovalchuk and
Andy Greene assisted on Zajac's goal.
Zach Parise made it 2-0 with a goal that beat Kari Lehtonen at
7:13. Parise's first goal of the season was assisted by Ilya Kovalchuk
and Travis Zajac.
Brenden Morrow beat Martin Brodeur at 11:16 to get Dallas on the
board.
The first period ended with New Jersey leading 2-1. The
shots were even, 11-11 in the period.
Loui Eriksson tied the game with a goal 3:02 into the second
period.
Jason Arnott scored a power-play goal at 10:22 to regain the lead
for New Jersey. Patrik Elias and Jamie Langenbrunner assisted on
Arnott's first goal of the season.
Brad Richards tied the game with a goal just 1:16 after Arnott's
goal.
Dallas outshot New Jersey 11-5 in the second period, which ended
with the teams tied, 3-3.
Neither team scored in the third period, forcing overtime.
Loui Eriksson scored 1:36 into the overtime to win the game for
Dallas.
