January 17, 2011 Game 45: Devils With Points in 4 Straight, BEAT Islanders 5-2
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 5-2 victory over the Islanders
on Long Island on Monday, January 17, 2011.
Vladimir Zharkov scored his first career NHL goal by beating
Kevin Poulin at 4:25 of the first period. Mattias Tedenby and Jason
Arnott assisted on the goal.
Ilya Kovalchuk scored a power-play goal at 5:22 to give New
Jersey a two goal lead. Kovalchuk's 13th goal of the season was assisted
by Andy Greene and Travis Zajac.
The Devils outshot the Islanders 11-9 in the first period, which
ended with the Devils leading 2-0.
Mattias Tedenby scored his fifth goal of the season to give the
Devils a three goal lead. Mark Fraser and Rod Pelley assisted on the
goal.
PA Parenteau beat Martin Brodeur after a terrible defensive
breakdown at 10:56. More poor defensive play led to another goal just
54 seconds later from Michael Grabner.
A goal from Rod Pelley made it 4-2 at 16:59. Pelley's
third goal of the season was assisted by Mark Fraser and Jason Arnott.
Just 54 seperated goals again, when Dainius Zubrus made it a
three goal game again at 17:53. Patrik Elias and Brian Rolston assisted
on Zubrus' seventh goal of the season.
The shots were even in the seconf period, 10-10. After 40
minutes of play, the Devils led 5-2 in goals.
